Kind of a Big Deal
Apparently planning a wedding is a ton more work than I had previously thought. As a little girl, you only care about three things when it comes to your wedding: the groom (aka Prince Charming,) the dress (big, puffy, and white,) and the cake (shaped like a castle.) But as my own wedding becomes reality, I've realized there are a few other elements that must be also considered such as season, weather, reception hall, type of ceremony, flowers, bridal party, entrees, appetizers, reception favors, bar options, ceremony music, dj/band, store registration, invitations, etc, etc, etc. In the few days after we got engaged, I realized this whole wedding business is a pretty big deal! So instead of panicing, we got right down to work.
It seems odd to set a wedding date two and a half years off, but that is exactly what we did. The church and reception hall had to be booked if we wanted to ensure we got the day we wanted. Naturally, since we reside in Green Bay, WI, the football influence took its toll and the wedding was automatically set within off-season, meaning February to July (can't get too close to pre-season!) but also not during Spring training camp. Since I had always wished for an October wedding, this did not bode well with me. But now I'm happy because it means we can get married even sooner following my graduation.
So after much careful consideration, hours spent poured over our calendars, and calls to the Green Bay Packers regarding their pre-season scheduling practices, the date has been set for July 12, 2008. And when we say the date has been set, we mean SET. The church is officially reserved and the reception hall contract is signed. This may seem a bit unnecessary, but in Wisconsin, we take our weddings seriously. These places can book years in advance and we weren't going to miss out on our date just because we didn't act fast enough. So mark your calendars because this date is final and I won't accept any excuses from people that they didn't know when the wedding would be! (And Dad, this means that the wedding won't take place in 2010 like you had been suggesting.)
